How to Apply for Hajj?
Applying for Hajj from outside Saudi Arabia depends on where you reside. The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah routes international applications through two main pathways: the Nusuk Hajj Platform (for Western countries, Muslim minorities, and selected regions) and Official National Hajj Missions / Licensed Agencies (for countries with large Muslim populations like Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, etc.).
Pathway 1: The Nusuk Hajj Platform
If you live in the US, Canada, the UK, Europe, Australia, or other served minority-Muslim countries, you must apply directly through the official Saudi government platform: hajj.nusuk.sa. It completely bypasses unofficial external brokers.
1.Create your Profile:Prerequisite.
Go to the official Nusuk Hajj portal and create an account. Choose “Individual Pilgrims” and select your current country of residence (this determines your package eligibility, not necessarily your passport country).
2.Upload Required Documents:Identity Verification.
Upload a clear scan of your passport bio page (must be valid for at least 6 months past your return date) and a recent passport-style photo with a plain background. Ensure your names match letter-for-letter.
3.Await ‘Verified’ Status:Document Review.
The Ministry will review your profile. Once approved, your account status will change to “Verified Pilgrim.” You cannot book anything until this status is achieved.
4.Select and Pay for a Package:Finalization.
Once Hajj packages go live on the platform, browse the available options provided by authorized service providers. Select your package and complete the payment directly through Nusuk’s integrated, secure digital system.
Pathway 2: National Hajj Quotas & Missions
If you reside in a country with an established bilateral Hajj agreement (e.g., Pakistan, India, Indonesia, or Egypt), you generally cannot use the general Nusuk global portal. Instead, you must apply through one of two channels inside your country:
- The Government Scheme: Organized by your country’s Ministry of Religious Affairs. This typically involves submitting an application through designated local banks or an online national portal, followed by a balloting (lottery) system due to high demand.
- The Private Scheme: Organized by private tour operators. You must ensure the agency you choose is strictly licensed and approved by both your local government and the Saudi Ministry of Hajj.
Critical Reminders Before You Start
⚠️ The Golden Rule of Names: When registering on Nusuk or national portals, your date of birth, passport number, and full name must match your physical passport precisely. Even a single digit typo or missing middle name can block your visa issuance later, and correcting it after verification is incredibly difficult.
- Health Requirements: Be prepared to provide up-to-date immunization records. Saudi Arabia mandates specific vaccines (such as Meningococcal ACWY and COVID-19) for all arriving pilgrims.
- Beware of Scams: Never hand over money or passport details to social media groups or external websites promising “backdoor” Hajj visas. Nusuk and official national ministries are the only legal pathways.
